PT – Physical Therapist

The Physical Therapist assesses the need for,develops, and delivers physical therapy programs to facilitaterehabilitation.

S / he identifies the need for and makes referral(s)to other disciplines to address the comprehensive needs ofpatients. S / he implements individualized therapy programs designedto restore, reinforce, and enhance performance.

Responsibilities 1.Screen, examine, and evaluate patients, including history, systemsreview, and application of appropriate tests and measures,synthesize information, and interpret examination findings toestablish a diagnosis, identify impairments, determine thepredicted level of improvement, and the time required to achieveit, identify precautions / contraindications, and design a plan ofcare.

2. Develop appropriate treatment goals and methods incollaboration with the patient and caregivers, implement thephysical therapy treatment plan, and complete all relateddocumentation and record keeping regarding these services.

Servicesinclude therapeutic exercise, functional training, manual therapy,airway clearance techniques, and use of electrotherapeutic andmechanical modalities.

3. Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants,temporary licensees, students, and support personnel in accordancewith state licensure requirements and professional standards.

4.Design, fit, and / or apply adaptive devices, and train patients inthe use of adaptive devices including orthotics and prosthetics.

5.Attend and contribute to patient care, staffing conferences, andother related meetings. 6. Put Patient Service first : ensure thatpatients and families receive the highest quality of service in acaring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes theindividuals' needs and rights.

7. Instruct patients in the skillsand techniques required for participation in mobility activities,and evaluate patient progress, attitudes, and behavior as relatedto rehabilitative potential.

Qualifications 1. Hold a validPhysical Therapy license in the state(s) of practice, or proof oflicense eligibility. 2. A Master's degree in Physical Therapy or arelated field.

a. For individuals who completed appropriatePhysical Therapy education prior to January 1, 2002, with a validPhysical Therapy license in the state(s) of practice or proof oflicense eligibility, a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy (orrelated field), plus five (5) years of progressively responsibleexperience in Physical Therapy will be accepted in lieu of theMaster’s degree.

b. A foreign-degree equivalent to the firstprofessional degree, consistent with state licensing rules, will beaccepted in lieu of Master’s degree.
