Biology Laboratory Technician - Técnico(a) do Laboratório de Ciências

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed professional for our Science laboratory technician position. The main responsibilities are described below and may vary or be changed from time to time, without altering the level of responsibility associated with the role.

General Responsibilities

Schedule the availability of, prepare and provide apparatus, equipment and other teaching materials as requested by the Science Teachers in the Faculty.

These may include chemicals, biological material, equipment, models, and disposable material such as stationery.

• Collect and clear away equipment and chemicals, and other teaching material once it is finished with, including safely disposing of waste and washing-up apparatus (using the dishwasher, where appropriate).
• Regularly check for faulty and damaged equipment and report to the Science Teacher and or Head of Faculty (as appropriate), and repair or replace the equipment, if possible.
• Be familiar with, or willing to learn how to use Lab Logger to monitor and maintain the stock levels chemicals, equipment and materials used in the laboratories.
• Monitor breakages of equipment and ensure that active inventory levels are maintained.
• Assist in keeping up-to-date records of inventory levels and locations of backup equipment, so that the end of year ordering is smooth and efficient.
• Assist in annual, final, stock check of all chemicals, disposable materials, glassware and other apparatus, so that new materials may be ordered.
• Adhere to CLEAPSS, IGCSE and IBO specifications and health and safety requirements.
• Keep storage areas clean and well organised.
• Clean all equipment including special equipment and glassware needing special care or treatment.
• Ensure the safe storage, care and handling of chemicals, safe disposal of residues and wastes, including micro-organisms.
• Review equipment needs within the department and advise on purchase of new and replacement of equipment.
• Order materials as requested using the school purchasing system.

WORKING HOURS ON CAMPUS : 07h15 to 16h30. Monday to Friday

Minimum Requirements

Currently pursuing or have a completed degree in Science with a specialization in Biology, a Bachelor's or Teaching degree in Biology, or related fields.

A familiarity with microbiology would be preferable.

• Intermediate level of English.
• Demonstrate initiative, commitment, proactivity, and organizational skills.
